Introduction
With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), AI performance in board games has far surpassed that of humans. Systems such as AlphaGo and AlphaZero have demonstrated superhuman decision-making capabilities, sparking worldwide interest in and research on human–machine gameplay. Yet surpassing humans also raises a fundamental question: How can AI understand, imitate, and assist people? This competition focuses on precisely such a topic, combining educational applications with behavioral understanding: Go player identification.
This competition draws on a large collection of real-world human Go game records and applies state-of-the-art deep learning and statistical modeling methods to make predictions about the players associated with those records, thereby advancing practical AI applications in intelligent behavior understanding and game-based education.
The competition dataset provides Go game records from human players at 10 playing-strength levels (1D–6D and classes A–D), with 100,000 games at each level. Each record is labeled with the player's playing-strength level and player ID. The objective is to identify which player in the candidate player set produced the records in each query game set.
Registration
- Every member of a registering team must log in to the AI CUP Registration System , complete all participant information requested on the registration page, and finish the team-formation process to register for the competition. All team names are assigned by the system and cannot be chosen by participants.
- On the next business day after a team completes competition registration in the AI CUP Registration System, its members will be able to participate in the competition on the AIdea platform.
- The competition has a Student Division and a General Public Division. Every member of a Student Division team must have student status. If even one team member is not a student, the entire team will be classified in the General Public Division.
- After registration, each participant is requested to complete the “Predicting Player Rank and Identifying Players from Go Game Records Competition — Pre-Competition Questionnaire.”
- After the competition, participants are requested to complete the “Predicting Player Rank and Identifying Players from Go Game Records Competition — Post-Competition Questionnaire.”
- Participants registering as part of a course should obtain the course code from the instructor or teaching assistant and enter it during registration so that the instructor can later access the competition results for course grading.

In the “Identifying Players from a Collection of Go Game Records” task, the top 16 teams that meet the award eligibility requirements will receive competition prize money. Total prize money for the Student Division Ranking Awards in this task is NT$125,000:
Place | Prize Money |
1st Place | NT$40,000 |
2nd Place | NT$25,000 |
3rd Place | NT$15,000 |
3 Excellence Awards | NT$5,000 each |
10 Honorable Mention Awards | NT$3,000 each |
In addition to prize money, the top 16 Student Division teams will receive a Ministry of Education certificate. Teams in the top 30 and within the top 25%, including General Public Division teams, may receive an electronic certificate issued by the Ministry of Education Artificial Intelligence Competition Project Office after submitting a report as required and receiving approval from the organizer's judging committee, regardless of participant status.
Award Claim Guidelines
- Sixteen Student Division Ranking Awards will be presented.
- Student Division Ranking Award (Note 1): Winning teams must agree to cooperate with the following arrangements made by the organizer; otherwise, they will forfeit their eligibility to receive an award.
- For a team to be eligible for a Student Division award, every team member must remain enrolled at an educational institution in the Republic of China (Taiwan) from the date of registration through the deadline for uploading test-set answers. Supporting documentation must be provided when the award is issued.
- Prize money will be paid by bank transfer in New Taiwan dollars. Each winning team that satisfies the registration rules and award eligibility requirements must designate a member with a local New Taiwan dollar bank account to receive the prize. That member will serve as the taxpayer for Republic of China (Taiwan) tax reporting, pay the applicable income tax, and sign all required documents concerning taxation, use of personal data, receipts, and related matters.
- Winning teams must submit reproducible model source code and a final report by the specified deadline for verification of their results.
- Final results will be calculated using the competition scoring method and confirmed on the basis of the Private Leaderboard score and the report review results.
- The report must include all content specified by the organizer. Evaluation will cover three areas: (1) report completeness, (2) report correctness, and (3) code originality. A judging panel of experts convened by the Ministry of Education Artificial Intelligence Competition and Annotation Data Collection Project Office will conduct the review. Reports that remain incomplete after the deadline or are submitted after the deadline may not be supplemented or revised and will not be scored.
- If any member of a team receiving a Student Division Ranking Award has already placed in the top three (including first through third place or Gold, Silver, or Bronze awards) three or more times in the Ministry of Education National College and University Artificial Intelligence Competition (AI CUP), administered by the Ministry of Education Artificial Intelligence Competition and Annotation Data Collection Project Office, then upon winning again, that team will receive only a Ministry of Education certificate and no prize money. The prize money will pass to the next-ranked team, and the two teams will share the same rank. This rule is not retroactive; award counts have accumulated since the Fall 2022 competition.
- Teams ranked within the top 25% of the overall Private Leaderboard and scoring above the baseline set by the judging panel (baseline score = TBD), up to a maximum of 30 teams, will be confirmed after their reports are reviewed by the judging panel. In accordance with the competition rules, each qualifying team will receive either one Ministry of Education certificate or an electronic certificate issued by the Ministry of Education Artificial Intelligence Competition Project Office. Please enter the advisor's information in the advisor field of the registration system and the advisor's name in the advisor field of the final report.
- The overall Private Leaderboard ranking includes only teams that have submitted answers, completed the competition, and obtained a Private Leaderboard score. Teams that do not submit answers by the specified deadline, or whose failed submissions are not corrected, will be deemed to have withdrawn and will not be included in the overall ranking.
- After approval by the organizer's judging committee, each team receiving a Student Division Ranking Award will receive one Ministry of Education certificate. The personal information entered for winning team members in the AI CUP Registration System will be used to prepare certificates and issue awards.
- The number of Student Division Ranking Awards may be adjusted according to the number and quality of entries. If submissions do not meet the required standard, the organizer's final judging committee may adjust or revoke rankings, leave awards vacant, or select fewer winners than originally specified.
- Teams receiving a Student Division Ranking Award must agree that the competition's supervising organization and organizing committee may use or share the reports or code submitted by outstanding winning teams for non-profit purposes such as teaching, talent development, or academic research.
- Each winning team must designate at least one representative to attend subsequent award activities and give a presentation as notified by the organizer. If no teammate is available, one teacher or fellow student may attend, accept the award, and give the presentation on the team's behalf. Winning teams must also agree that the competition's supervising organization and organizing committee may use or share the presentation materials and presentation videos submitted by outstanding winning teams for non-profit purposes such as teaching, talent development, or academic research.
- Teams in the top 30 and within the top 25% of the Private Leaderboard, including General Public Division teams, will receive an electronic certificate issued by the Ministry of Education Artificial Intelligence Competition Project Office after submitting a report as required and receiving approval from the organizer's judging committee.
Note 1: If any General Public Division team ranks among the top 16, the Student Division Ranking Award places will pass in ranking order to the next eligible Student Division teams, which will receive Ministry of Education certificates and prize money.

Evaluation Criteria
Top-5 Exponential-Decay Scoring
If the correct player appears at position in the Top-5, the score is:$r$
$$S_{ID}(r)=e^{-(r-1)}, r=1, 2, 3, 4, 5$$
$$S_{player}=\frac{1}{400}\sum\limits_{i=1}^{400}{S_{ID}(r_{i})}$$
- 1:1.000
- 2:0.368
- 3:0.135
- 4:0.050
- 5:0.018
If the correct answer does not appear in the Top-5, the score for that question is 0 points.
